Framework For Preventing Youth

Violence

1.     Implement an evidence-based, research backed violence prevention program as designed.

2.     Measure outcomes using an evaluation tool that allows for comparison with other schools and provides information that can guide future efforts at building a caring school environment.

3.     Address student needs at all levels:

o       Give all students a foundation for positive relationships

o       Help at risk kids develop protective factors

o       Provide instructive, non-punitive, consequences for kids who break school rules

o       Support kids who are hurt.

4.     Annually train employees to identify student risk factors for violence / bullying and how to intervene in bullying and conflict situations.

5.     Involve staff, students, parents and the larger community.

6.     Give the program roots and prominence by establishing a working committee, policies and procedures; by celebrating accomplishments and developing channels for ongoing funding.
