Staff Bio

Leah Young, Peace Guide

Leah started her career as a history teacher on Chicago's South Side, where her students taught her the power of humor, authenticity, and solid planning as tools to build a nourishing community.

After spending a year in Amman, Jordan, as a teacher and journalist, she transitioned into a career as a reporter and editor. She spent four years covering education for the D.C. Examiner, then nearly a decade at One Day, the alumni magazine of Teach For America. At the Examiner and at One Day, she reported on the deep injustices facing America's students as well as the remarkable kids, parents, school leaders, teachers, and communities finding brave and innovative ways to improve kids' outcomes and fuel their hopes.

When she's not working as a Peace Guide, she's likely reading, writing, hanging out with her family, or googling what on earth to make for dinner.
