New Peace Guide Service Launching in Partner Schools

We are pleased to announce that PeaceMaker Minnesota now offers a new service line: Peace Guide Services.

With your support, a new Peace Guide, Mary Motenson, started this month at St. Helena Catholic School in South Minneapolis. And thanks to a grant from the State Office of Justice Programs, we are currently recruiting for a part-time Peace Guide for Little Mountain Elementary in Monticello as well.

The Peace Guide Service equips schools with Peace Guides, employees of PeaceMaker Minnesota, during the lunch period and recess – times when conflicts are more likely to occur between students and additional support is needed.

Peace Guides help students and staff members – using a restorative justice approach – to build positive learning communities by resolving conflicts, repairing harm, and building relationships.

Peace Guides were originally staffed by the South St. Paul Restorative Justice Council; the service was discontinued in 2017. We are grateful to the Council for paving the way for this program and for the ongoing consultation they have provided as we work to reinitiate the service.

If you know someone who might be interested in the Peace Guide position at Little Mountain Elementary in Monticello, please have them email a cover letter and resume.

Thank you to all the donors who have helped to make this service possible.
