Teachers Get Help to Provide Bullying Prevention Education

Despite the unprecedented challenges of the 2019 – 2020 school year, PeaceMaker Minnesota partner schools maintained their commitment to bullying prevention and peace education. As a result, our Financial Services helped 86 teachers from 6 schools bring bullying prevention education to their students by providing $9,600.

The service also awarded funding to Lake Park Audubon Elementary for being recognized as a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Exemplary School by the State of Minnesota.

Schools received funding for teachers that facilitated or taught one of two evidence-based programs – the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program or the Second Step Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Program. Research shows both to be effective at reducing bullying and aggressive behaviors in kids.

“We appreciate the continued PeaceMaker partnership in helping our students resolve conflict. A big part of that partnership is the support of our social-emotional curriculum,” commented Gabe Hackett, principal of Little Mountain Elementary. “When we consider all the change happening in our state, in education, and throughout the country right now, our partnership with PeaceMaker and our ability to reach students through a research-based social/emotional curriculum has never been more important.”

We applaud these schools, teachers, and administrators for their ongoing commitment and efforts:
